Congratulations to our Maths and Citizen 'Stars of the week', who were recognised during our celebration assembly this week.
Parent Communications: Important Update
Parent-Carer Letters
As you know, we write to you with information about activities that will involve your child throughout the school year; educational visits, sporting activities, data protection requirements, special events in school etc. If a response is required, we will continue to distribute printed letters to the children to take home but, in an effort to reduce our paper use, to help us go lighter on the planet, whilst embracing the digital age, we are looking to reduce our paper consumption!
As such, any letters that do not require a response will be now emailed to you via the schools app: 'Schoolzine'.
Most parents are either on the ‘Schoolzine’ app, or have provided an email address to the school office, but there are a few who haven’t as of yet.
To make sure you don't miss out on important information, please can you ensure that you:
- sign up for the app, see below for the easy 'how to' guide, or
- drop your email address into the school office, either via email: [email protected] or in person.
Schoolzine
- Download the SZapp app from your App-Playstore by searching for 'SZapp'
- Search for 'Snitterfield Primary School'
- Choose the classes that your children are currently in and any clubs they are members of (running or sports as of today).
If you do not have an email address, just let the office know and we will organise a workaround.
Newsletter
We will continue to produce bi-weekly newsletters containing messages from Mrs Plaskitt, news of the childrens day-to-day activities, stars of the week, up and coming events, FOSS updates, and community and club information, but the newsletter will no longer be printed out, it will be distributed via Schoolzine and uploaded to the Snitterfield Primary School website.
Don't delay, sign up to SZapp today!
If there is other information that you'd like to see covered in the newsletter, or you have any ideas for future editions, all feedback is welcomed, just email: [email protected]
Starting on Monday June 4th after half-term, the kitchen are offering 'Delicious Deli Bags' as an option for school lunch. The 'Delicious Deli Bags' will cost £2.15 and, as per the hot meal menu, will be on a three-week rotation. The first week back after half-term will fall as week 3, and the 'Delicious Deli Bag' weekly menu is below.
With the sunny weather finally upon us, your child might like to switch from hot lunches to sandwiches and enjoy picnicking on the field. You no longer need to give the office a notice period, your child can simply let the teacher know that they have brought packed lunch in that day, when dinner choices are being taken each morning, and any lunch credits will carry over.
Alternatively, if your child normally has sandwiches but fancies switching to a hot lunch on a paritcular day, to: fuel a swimming lesson later that day, save time with parents working late, or if the weather takes a chillier direction, your child can simply make their choice of hot meal in the morning.
We still recommend that, for the younger children in Reception, Y1, Y2, you continue to inform the office if your child is switching between hot and cold lunch, just to ensure it fits with your thinking/budget! You can email: [email protected] or pop in, whichever is easiest.
Class 2 are looking for three Parent volunteers to pop in to school and help teach/play some traditional board games with the children such as Connect Four, Guess Who, Dominoes etc. The traditional ‘gaming’ sessions will run each Friday, for five weeks, with the last session on Friday the 13th of June.
First Session: Friday 15th June for 5 weeks
Time: 2:15PM – end of school
What: Traditional board games
Board games offer the children many obvious benefits such as inclusiveness and creative thinking and encourage children to consider the concept of rules, practice following rules, how to win, and lose, with grace and good manners, and countless intellectual benefits such as pattern detection and planning ahead, but essentially are a lot of fun!
If you're interested and able to help, please let Miss Barnett or Mrs Brettell know and contact Mrs Carless in the office for a DBS form, if you don't already have one.
Class 2 were lucky enough to have a visit from Sylvia, our resident African music conisseur, who showed the children some wonderful African musical instruments and let them explore the amazing different sounds they produced!
This Thursday the school was visited by Kyra and Sophie from 'Hedgehog Friendly Town', along with Becky from 'Rubbish Friends'. The children were shown two recently rescued hedgehogs, heard how the volunteers look after sick and injured hedgehogs, and how to make our gardens hedgehog friendly.
Hedgehogs and other wildlife hate litter because they get can caught, suffocate in it, or eat it and become very poorly. Becky explained that a lot of money is spent on picking up litter and that this money could be spent in schools instead if there was litter to collect. Becky also explained how some litter can be reused and asked the children a very important question: would they become 'Rubbish Friends' by not littering and making sure to recycle where possible? Both of which will help save hedgehogs.
A good place for children to start being 'Rubbish friends' is at: Snitterfield Fete on Sunday June the 10th, 12-4PM at Snitterfield playing fields.
