FROM THE EXECUTIVE HEADS OFFICE
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term, and I hope you all had a lovely half term last week despite the miserable weather!
As you know this week is our Health & Safety Week and we've welcomed a variety of visitors into school to engage the children in the various themes such as wellbeing, water safety, road safety, First Aid, internet safety, mindfulness, and fire safety. Today you may have noticed that we've had a visit from the Life caravan, which we booked to support our learning from our PHSE sessions (Personal, Health and Social Education). All the children had a great time across the various activities, see the pictures in the article below of the children in action at the sessions.
Beckie Reaper, Kidz Club owner, has decided to finish Kidz Club at the end of the summer term, and move on to other business opportunities. Becki has been associated with the school for many years and we know that the provision of before and after school care (and holiday clubs) was a factor in some families choosing Snitterfield School. We will be sad to see Beckie leave as she has been a great supporter of the school, a valuable member of our team and we thank her for her services to school.
The school recognises that wraparound care is an important part of our provision and we sought advice from the Local Authority before half term and have been actively seeking expressions of interest to find a new provider. More information will be given in due course, but please bear in mind that these processes take time and we can only communicate information when we are able to. Governors will be coming to paretns for their views on what the service should provide.
Best wishes,
Mrs Plaskitt
HEALTH & SAFETY WEEK: Look how busy the children have been
Well, what a fun, informative and life-skills focused week the children across the school have had!
It began with 'Fire Safety' for Y5, we've had a Police Community Support Officer in to talk to KS2 children about 'Online Safety', a 'Road Safety' assembly for all children, Years 1 and 2 have had a 'Healthy Eating' Workshop (in which they enjoyed blueberries the most) tying perfectly with their healthy eating topic, KS1 enjoyed a 'Water Safety' assembly, Year 1 a 'Fire Safety' talk given by real firemen, Y3/4/5/6 have all completed and passed a 'Little Medics First Aid' Course (certificates will be handed out during Monday's Celebration Assembly), Years 3 and 4 took part in Mrs Shipley's Mindfulness session yesterday (resulting in very relaxed children with two children falling asleep!), and finally all Years have spent time in the Life Caravan today exploring PSHE topics.
ROAD SAFETY: Reception, Year 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
ONLINE SAFETY: Year 3, 4, 5 & 6
MINDFULNESS: Year 3 & 4
HEALTHY EATING: Year 1 & 2
LITTLE MEDICS: Year 3 & 4
LITTLE MEDICS: Year 5 & 6
LIFE CARAVAN: Reception, Year 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
WATER SAFETY: Reception, Year 1 & 2
FIRE SAFETY: Year 1
Class 1 did an AMAZING job at their first ever Sharing Assembly - parents were treated to a wonderful display of xxx-all children performed beautifully and, despite a little shyness, they dug deep, found the confidence and smashed it!
We look forward to seeing the next one! Well done children.
CLASS 1: Teeth, Sliders and Handwriting
Class 1 have had a busy month. In just the past week they've been focusing really hard on their hand writing:
They've been learning all about teeth, how to look after them and how important they are:
Following the Road Safety assembly they were inspired to make 'sliders' of people crossing roads...safely:
A rare dry Friday for Class 1 the other week, in early Feb, for the children to enjoy the outside.
CLASS 2: Fire Fighting in the 21st century versus 1666 during the Great Fire of London
Big thank you to Mr McGreavy for giving up his time to come and talk to Class 2 about fire fighting in today's world versus 1666. The children learnt lots of information, asked lots of questions and got to wear the uniform and hold the hose. They particularly enjoyed seeing Miss Barnet Fire Fighter extraordinaire!
CLASS 2: Pancake Flipping Race
Just look at these lovely faces...who would have thought a pancake flipping race would generate such grimaces!!
The noise and excitement coming from the hall as Class 2 raced in teams against one another was immense.
Have you noticed our beautifully sanded and restored new hall floor...looks fab doesn't it...courtesy of the insurance company due to the flood from our water dispenser in the Autumn term we were able to get the hall and the ICT area flooring lovingly restored.
Class 2 finished off their topic of healthy eating by making a scrumptious fruit salad to take home with them the other week.
CLASS 3: Trip to Botanical Gardens
In the first week of February, Class 3 headed of to Birmingham to consolidate their learning on Rainforests.
They took part in a 'Rainforest Challenge' and a 'Rainforest Fun' Session with animals at the Royal Botanical Gardens and they learnt all about where tropical rainforests are situated, the animals that inhabit them and why they are so endangered and all enjoyed a fantastic day out.
Remarkably, Class 4 enjoyed a blue and sunny Forest School session in the first week of February - take a look, it's nice to be reminded of drier days during these monsoons!
Class 4 have clay modelled and painted some fantastic cacti which are currently (cleverly) attached to a board outside of Class 3 so that visitors to the school can all enjoy them.
If you haven't seen them yet, pop in and take a look, they're really impressive.
SCHOOL COUNCIL: Australia Bush Fires Fundraiser
Thank you to all those who baked, bought and donated scrummy cakes and biscuits to sell at our recent School Council-run fundraiser in support of the Australian animals affected by the recent bush fires.
School Council, along with Demi and Emily from Class 4, helped raised £111 which has enabled us to sponsor not only a koala bear but also a kangaroo. Demi kindly bought the ingredients and toppings to sell warming hot chocolates and Emily had made some hair scrunchies to sell on the day, both proved very popular and helped increase our total.
A particular mention goes to Noah H from Class 2 who baked some 'Bake-off standard' Koala face cup cakes - Pru would be proud. Class 2 also maked some cute Koala-eared biscuits to sell on the day.
The soft toy versions of the koala bear and kangaroo are currently living on the signing-in table to welcome visitors when they arrive at school and will be named very soon - keep your eyes pealed for more announcement!
Late January, Mrs Plaskitt and Mr Young took a mix of Year 5 and Year 6 children to take part in the South Warwickshire Indoor Athletics Tournament, competing against 6 other schools in various races, including throwing disciplines.
Whilst they didn't feature on the podium this time round ;-), they gave it their all and had a lot of fun.
