Graham Stanley, Senior Engineer at WCC Traffic and Road Safety Group, has advised that their contractors, Balfour Beatty, have programmed a start date for the Safer Routes to School works in Snitterfield.
The prime objective is to increase the numbers of pupils walking or cycling to and from schools, by improving safety and perceived safety in the vicinity of and on routes to and from schools.
The secondary objective is to encourage parents/carers to drop off and collect pupils safely from their vehicles without endangering the safety of others.
The works include Vehicle Activated signs, new signs & carriageway markings, improved pedestrian links at School Lane/Bell Lane junction. WCC are also introducing an advisory 20 mph Speed Limit at School start /finish times; this is operated at school times by the Vehicle Activated signs located each side of the school entrance on Bearley Road. The sign reverts to a flashing 30 mph speed limit sign at all other times.
The main works will be carried out by their Contractors and are planned to start Monday 6th March 2017, and lasting about two weeks. The works should not interfere with access to the school at am/pm, it will be carried out after 09.00 and be off site before 15.00. If there are any issues/concerns please contact Graham Stanley or Chris Round, Engineer, who is looking after the works on 01926 413789.
